Towards the Light

The story of this picture started with a conversation. This was my first encounter with a lady, we just started to get acquainted with each other. I described her my art activity, I spoke about my pictures. She listened to me attentively, looked at some pictures and asked: Why don’t you make a picture related to hospice? I had heard about hospice services before but I did not have any knowledge about the Hospice House in Debrecen the embleme of which is daffydowndilly. Hospice care is a type of care and philosophy of care that focuses on the palliation of a chronically ill, terminally ill or seriously ill patient's pain and symptoms, and attending to their emotional and spiritual needs.

When I arrived home in the evening I knew already that I would make a picture about hospice the central motive of which would be the daffydowndilly and the topic of the picture would be the passing away rather than pain or suffering. We do not know what would happen to us at the end of our journey, this is the reason why we are afraid as we are afraid of darkness as well. But when we recognise the light we make a move at once towards it and all the fears pass away. And when the Sun appears from out of the sky we would be even happier. After the night we always wait for sunrise, after Winter we wait for Spring. And when we see the Sun we turn our face towards it and a special joy comes to our way.

On the picture it is the daffydowndilly who shines the light while butterflies fly away towards the light….
