Badacsony
Having missed a year we spent some days on the Balaton Lake for which we were longing for. It lasts several hours to reach the “Hungarian see” from Debrecen on the highway but when I get sight of the blue colour of the lake, I forget the fatigue of the road at once. I spent summers in my childhood in Szigliget and also in the children’s camp in Zanka. Those were marvellous days, bathing in the lake, excursions to Tihany or to Badacsony. This picture was made upon the request of a young pair on Badacsony who will take the picture as wedding present to their friends. Their instruction was only that the groom was a great fan of Badacsony. I used basically Dutch stamps to paint the picture but the most difficult was to find the blue of the sky. One can see four ships on the picture. The two small sailboats symbolize the newlyweds while the ship in the middle of the picture presents a very unique ship named “Irma”. The ship was built in 1872 that time under the name of the lake itself upon the order of the Zala-Somogy Steam Ship Company. This ship was the first crew-steamer on Balaton. Her long life ended in 2009 when it burnt down.
