Battlefield: yesterday. today! tomorrow?
It is September 2024 when I am writing these words. There are 110 armed conflict going on all around the world. This number has never been that high ever! We read about horror and listen to the news and are getting to be accommodated to them slowly. We are becoming to be neglectful, indifferent towards them and really, what can we do? I myself protest against any type of war and senseless massacre with this picture of mine
And what about the poppies on the picture? One can find the red poppies to be spoken about already after the great war. Poppies are able to live though even in such places where other plants are unable to do so. People surviving the great war were saying that when they spotted the poppies around the victims and the bomb craters, they felt as if they had been grown on the blood of the victims.
It was easy to find stamps with poppies but how to feature the victims? At this moment it came into my mind that I had received very unique chess pieces some times before from Maria Takacsne Treki and her husband Tamas. Their uniqueness meant that they had been prepared by war prisoners of the second world war. What remained after this was only to make the chess board. My original intention was to make the 46 quadrats of green stamps issued by different countries. I did not find that many countries with green stamps so I figured 32 countries with their own stamps while to make the remaining 14 I used Hungarian stamps. And this all what I wanted to say in words, let’s speak the pictures itself!
