My newest exhibition will be on June 9 in the Arkadia Space of The Artist Chamber Galery in 44 Magyar Street in the city centre of Budapest. I am very much thrilled on this occasion as this will be my first exhibition in downtown Budapest.
Artwork out of artwork – is the title of the exhibition set by Lilka Koncsis, art historian, My earlier exhibitions were usually titled to be Stamp! or Stamp etudes. This new title emphasises the essence of my art meaning that I use small art pieces to make new pieces of art rather than express something with the use of lifeless paint. I use stamps either to further the thoughts implanted into them or to make new pictures by using the colours the have.
The coming exhibition presents another miracle as well. In this case I take an artwork of another genre, a drama this case for the basis and make another art piece, my stamp picture by furthering thoughts of the drama.
We were invited by Zoltan Balazs, a stage-director to view a play titled Pénelopeia arranged by him to the shore of the wonderful Bank Sea in Theatre Mettrin. The play, made upon Margaret Attwood’s novel is laid in the underworld and presents Pénelopé talking about her story. I did like the play very much and the tragic fate of the twelve maidservants caught my attention.
Should you have a possibility I suggest to read the novel and/or see the play.
Nevertheless, not this was the first occasion when a play or ballet offered me the inspiration. These were for example the Swan Lake, Ghosts of Turandot or The Two Popes.
Coming back to picture Odyssey Arrived Home June 9 will be the first day to exhibit and present it with the most probable participation f Zoltan Balazs, the stage director.
Our friendship with Zoltan started last year already after we saw his other play, The Puppet Master.
This play inspired me to make a new picture as well. Its title is: Reminiscences of a theatre play. It presents a puppet maser living alone in Berlin together with the reminiscences to her dead wife and unborn child. The picture talks about the man who closed himself into the prison of his own reminiscences. The key leading to the freedom is ahead of him but will he open the door for himself? Freedom for him would mean the ultimate loss of his wife and child but the puppet master does not want to suffer this loss.
I would also like to present another picture to be shown on the exhibition. Its title is: "In Flanders fields The poppies blow".
The motive of red poppies occupies me for a long time already, more exactly since my first exhibition in England. I read that time that to remember to the 100th anniversary of the Great War 888,246 pieces of poppies made out of ceramics for the occasion were placed around the Tower remembering to the British victims of the War. I was astonished how strong British people remembered to those fallen in the Great War. The fate of the ceramic poppies was very British as well; there were sold through charities. This was the story how my picture The Poppies of the Tower was born.
I learned when preparing myself to make the picture that according to the legend poppy is the only flower which can grow on the blooded war field over the bodies of the war.
We do see a number or wars in hour days too so I came back ti the motive of the poppies and made the picture "In Flanders fields The poppies blow". You can read on the picture the poems written by a Canadian volunteer John McCrae after the funeral of a friend fallen in a battle in Flanders in 1915 (In Flanders Field).
We kindly ask everyone to come to the opening event on June 9 or to visit the exhibition until June 23.
